Basement Beats at Music Therapy Hub

Introducing the Music Therapy Hub, Basement Beats, a new program at the St. James Community Arts Centre in Scarborough. This hub is designed to offer young people a unique opportunity to explore the therapeutic benefits of music.

  • Location: St. James Community Arts Centre, Scarborough
  • Time: Wednesdays, 4:30-6:30pm
  • Format:
    • The first hour is an open group session available to anyone on a ‘drop-in’ basis.
    • The second hour consists of 20-minute pre-bookable slots.

Purpose and Goals: The hub is tailored for young individuals aged 8 and above living in Scarborough and the surrounding areas. Our primary goals are:

  • Encouraging self-expression
  • Helping participants regulate emotions and connect with themselves
  • Developing interpersonal skills

Session Activities: Activities will vary based on individual and group needs, including:

  • Shared improvisation
  • Singing
  • Listening to music
  • Songwriting and adapting existing songs
  • Exploring different instruments
  • Utilizing music technology

All activities will incorporate elements of reflection and discussion, aligned with our therapeutic goals
