Bikes and the associated accessories are often a Christmas purchase. We popped along to Big Bear Bikes in Pickering to have a look. This was a great experience as they have a vast array of stock and very helpful staff. Here is a bit more about our experience…
We started with trying helmets on both Henry and Eliza. Andrea was so helpful and knowledgeable about the products, explaining the different features and answering the kids’ questions. She was also very patient!
Mike talked us through the different bikes, the features and how you should fit a bike to your child. They stock Frog and Trek bikes for kids. We started with Eliza… They stock the various balance bikes and whilst we already have one, she did have a quick go to show Mike how confident she was. We then looked at the first size. He explained what to look for when trying a bike and matched her to a Frog 43.
Henry has a bike, but is ready for the next size. At the moment, he is between sizes Frog 52 and Frog 55. Mike was brilliant at explaining why a bike was too big and why another bike was about right. He not only took the time to explain to us, but also to the kids so they were engaged in the process and meant they also behaved better!
They had a variety of accessories as well including bike bells! Perfect for stockings. Whilst we were there, I also had a look at a bike. Andrea helped me. I have never bought a bike in my life (I can ride one….just) so am pretty clueless but I would like to ride with the rest of the family as Eliza gets more confidence. The car park was perfect for a quick ride to! This ensured the bikes were the right size for me too and I was able to try a variety – one for my Christmas wish list too!
Here’s a little video showing our time in the shop (I haven’t included me on the bike, not a pretty sight!) but its fantastic having a bike shop that lets you ride the bikes in a safe environment outside so you can get a real feel for what size and what type of bike, suits you best.
Bikes are often a Christmas purchase and Big Bear Bikes is a great place to go. Big Bear Bikes are happy to store any bikes bought for Christmas and you can also discuss delivery too. The staff are knowledgeable and very patient, taking the time to explain to the parent and the child. They have shops in Pickering and Dalby Forest (which includes a bike hire shop with electric bikes!). There is a great car to the rear of the Pickering shop making it easy to pop in. Both shop are open 6 days a week from Tuesday to Sunday.
They also run a variety of Mountain Bike courses from the Dalby site including 1 2 1 courses – here are the ones running in half term.
