The Coronavirus is obviously very much in the news now, therefore Bigvits felt it might be useful to remind you of the advice from the NHS, World Health Organisation and the UK Government regarding Coronavirus.
Coronavirus is a family of viruses that are common across the world causing a range of illnesses from the common cold to severe respiratory conditions. Generally, it is more severe in people with a weakened immune system, older people or those with a long-term condition or illness.
COVID-19 is a strain first identified in Wuhan City, China having caused several cases of pneumonia.
As it is a new strain, it is not clear how it is spread (similar viruses are spread in cough droplets) and there is no specific treatment. Any treatment is to relieve the symptoms whilst the body fights the illness. The symptoms are cough, high temperature and shortness of breath. If you have any of the symptoms or are concerned you might have COVID-19, then use NHS 111 to guide you as to what you should do next.
The NHS recommend precautions like those necessary to avoid catching germs:
We do not know much about this strain yet; however, we do know that building our immunity helps combat viral infections so it might be worth boosting our immunity.
The following explores what we can do to increase our immunity:
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that cleans up the free radicals that impact on how efficiently our immune system works. If you are unfortunate enough to catch a cold, then Vitamin C has also been shown to help reduce the length and severity of cold symptoms. Bigvits have some great Vitamin C products, including a Probiotic with Vitamin C designed to improve daily immunity.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is classically linked to helping keep our teeth and bones healthy and strong and it is thought to be at its lowest in March, however, Vitamin D is also thought to help activate the immune system and fight infections. As Vitamin D is produced from the sunlight a supplement is recommended in the winter months (until April).
Zinc
Zinc is another mineral that is known to help reduce cold symptoms and duration. It can also help to reduce the risk of upper respiratory infections in youngsters.
Epicor
Epicor is a great product that is available for adults and children that is also suitable for vegans. It is a natural product that is designed to strengthen immunity and keep the immune system balanced and performing to its optimal level.
