Certain North Yorkshire residents have been benefitting from council schemes that help eligible householders receive heating and insulation measures to reduce their fuel bills and improve the warmth of their home.
You may be able to join the 71 residents taking part in the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund scheme who have received fully funded A-rated central heating systems.
North Yorkshire County Council are working with the district councils in Ryedale and the Scarborough Borough to deliver the only scheme in the region that offers eligible residents a fully funded central heating system and gas connection.
Funding is available for a limited time only to help homeowners and private renting tenants currently using inefficient storage heaters, room heaters or fires this winter.
Ryedale District Council and Scarborough Borough Council also have separate schemes for residents to receive funding for A-rated boiler replacements as well as loft and cavity wall insulation.
To qualify for the funding, residents must either be in receipt of certain state benefits, or have a household income below £21,000 and meet additional criteria which includes having young children, being a pregnant woman, being over 70 or having certain health conditions.
Peter Benson’s story
Self-employed fencer Peter Benson was struggling to stay warm in his old house, however, a new fully funded A-rated gas central heating system ended his woes.
Peter was relying on an open fire in the living room for warmth, until he came across the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund scheme online and decided to apply.
“I was so happy when I found out it was fully funded because I’d never had central heating in my life, I was made up.”
Peter received a gas connection and an extensive A-rated central heating system for his large inefficient house.
“I could never have done it on my own without the scheme because the system I needed was so big, I couldn’t afford it.
“But thanks to YES Energy Solutions and the council I could get the system, I think it’s a brilliant scheme, I really do.”
