A great chance to find best ways to involve children in storytelling.

Ignite imaginations by setting your storytelling on fire.

Delivering good stories is not just how you write. It is about how you deliver it to eager ears.

“Storytelling is about getting an image inside the heads and hearts of your listeners,” says trainer Tony Howson. He added: “Once that magic is there, the key is to keep those pictures moving. Good story telling is more visual than television or cinema.”

He and storytelling partner Catharine Boddy will be running courses on how to create and deliver stories at Scarborough’s Woodend Creative Centre, starting in January.

Catharine added: “Telling stories is fun. It can be for kids, who love stories, or it can be for adults who want to be entertained. And the course that we will be running will also be fun, developing those skills and trying them out.” The courses will be run on Saturday mornings at Woodend Creative Workspace The Crescent, Scarborough YO11 2PW and cost will £7.50 per person per session. Starting at 10.30, the course will be held on January 19, 26 and February 2 and 16. There is a gap in February to give time for a creative exercise. You can apply to take part by contacting Tony at tony@howsoncreative.co.uk He said: “Best to apply as soon as possible to ensure a space on this course.”

Both trainers are published poets and regular story tellers. Catharine is a teacher and Tony works for BBC Media Action as a trainer.

Said Catharine: “Since people started gathering in caves and sitting around fires, storytelling developed inside our DNA. Many claim the art is being lost because of technology, blaming computers and tablets. But one think is certain: everyone loves a good story. “

Tony added: “We just need to make sure that fire keeps burning, a kind of eternal flame, so that storytelling is not just a once upon-a-time experience.”
