Exhibitions on The German Bombardment of the South Cliff Dec 1914, Oliver Sarony, (Victorian Photographer), cyanotypes by Angela Chalmers, and once-daily tours of this impressive Pre-Raphaelite Church. Plus our famous Heritage Cafe.

1. The Art of ‘One Day in December’. An evening book launch event Friday 13th at 1900. There is a separate events page about this.
2. There is a daily free 75 minute (approx) guided tour of the Pre-Raphaelite stained glass and decorations. See Opening Times below for when the tours take place. There is no tour on Sundays. You are welcome to join of leave the tour at any time. “Each window, like the elements of the church’s painted decorations, demands detailed individual appraisal, like a visit to an art gallery. St. Martin’s is the first church of the Gothic revival where this is the case.” Michael Hall 2014
3. A display about the German Bombardment of Scarborough in December 1914 focusing on the area surrounding the church.
4. Two artistic installations by Angela Chalmers of cyanotypes entitled “The Futility of War” linking with the bombardment theme (3), and “Spiritual Gardening”, an artistic reaction to the Victorian benefactress of the Church, Mary Craven.
5. A display about the life and achievements of the famous Victorian Scarborough photographer Oliver Sarony, whose purpose-built studios were located on a site adjacent to the church.
6. The Church and the Heritage Open Days Cafe will be open from 1000 – 1700 each day except Sunday 1300 to 1645, (there is a service at 1100 on Sundays – all welcome). The cafe sells home-made light refreshments including soup and a roll, sausage rolls, a variety of cakes and tea and coffee, all at very reasonable prices.
