During Foster Care Fortnight 2020, we want to say a huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our foster carers who do such a great job for our North Yorkshire young people, not just during lockdown but every day of every month, throughout the year – and we’d like to take the opportunity to introduce some of these amazing families to you…
#This is Fostering
Meet Di
‘Lockdown has been hard, hearing the cold hard facts of people losing their lives. We have truly missed our families, but have found other ways to see them. It has also been a great opportunity to spend real quality time doing really silly things instead of the mundane day to day things we normally do.
We have become full time teachers – earning ‘dojo’ rewards has become the challenge!
We have become Luke’s best friends – for him out of desperation, for us out of sheer love and joy.
We have walked dogs, rode bikes, taught, chatted and played. It may have been challenging at times, but it is something we will always remember.
It’s made us more appreciative of the small things and less dependent on the things we thought we couldn’t do without. It has been a real roller coaster that Luke will recount to his grandchildren one day. It isn’t a situation that people would choose; however it has taught us so much about humility and humanity.’
