The Great Yorkshire Maze opened on 22nd July, a brand new attraction for this summer, located on the A64 York to Scarborough Road at Sherburn. Hull Mumbler went for a family day out last weekend to see what it was like. She tells us more here….
“We arrived at 11am and the sight from the road looks very exciting, a big circus top poking out the top of a beautiful field of maize. There are fairground rides and games to go on 2 mazes to do, plus kids shows in the big top 3 times a day.
We started with the smaller maze; it has scarecrows to find throughout it and it’s a short walk around, my children enjoyed finding the scarecrows (especially the one who looked just like their nanna!). We then went on some of the fairground rides before heading inside the big top to have our picnic on a bench. There were benches inside and outside that you can use to eat a picnic or food bought from the cafe but the entertainer was starting a show at 12.30pm so we picked inside and ate our lunch then watched some of his show.
We then headed out to do the larger maze, finding the middle pretty easily then enjoying walking around it. My children absolutely loved running ahead, hiding and then jumping out at us to surprise us! We really did have a good laugh and giggle as a family and really enjoyed that bit.
We then went on a few extra rides and played on the giant football target which my son loved, it’s something we’ve not seen or done before.
After around 2 and a half hours we felt we had done everything so carried on in the car to the coast for a beach walk. There are some lovely beaches nearby and we thought about going into Scarborough or to Cayton Bay but eventually decided on Filey, it was only around a 15 minute drive.
Here are my top tips if you are planning a day at the Great Yorkshire Maze:
