This is a morning of storytelling, creative play, singing, movement, crafts and sensory activities. For the younger ones, baby massage too!
Eliza and I attended for the first time. A really lovely group with children aged 10 months to over 3 years. It was pitched perfectly for all ages. This week the theme was “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”…
We all introduced ourselves and told everyone our news. This was followed by some warm up songs and some movement. Eliza always takes a bit of warming up so this was great for us.
Sarah then read the story so everyone could see and encouraged adults and children to join in if they knew the words. All the children were very engaged in the story and actions were encouraged for the different parts.
This was then explored even further using props. Eliza loved this bit…. We waved scarves for snow and played musical instruments for the grass. For the river, Sarah had a large piece of material with lily pads, encouraging the children to cross without “falling in”. This was a definite hit. Then out came everyone’s favourite, the parachute! Leaves were put on the parachute to depict the forest and various songs sung.
At all times, children were free to explore the room and partake in the activities they wished. This was the same when the crafts came out. Everyone was invited to do the craft, but if children preferred to continue to explore the props, that was fine too.
Eliza particularly enjoyed the craft, again, it was linked to “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” with snow, a river, mud, forest and a bear….another picture for the fridge.
Before we knew it, it was time to go home. We had had a lovely time and can highly recommend it.
The baby class is run at a slightly slower speed, dictated by those taking part. There is more sensory play, some baby massage and a lot calmer environment. Sarah is a doula and a mum as well as involved in the theatre so she combines everything to provide this lovely class.
