Wetwang Scarecrow Festival has always been something we have enjoyed from the car but this year we thought we would do it properly and we weren’t disappointed!
We parked opposite the Wetwang Village Hall and popped in to buy a map for 50p and were soon to be given a Dwarf Competition form too! There are things going on in the village hall – exhibition about the local area as well as a tombola, a few stalls including selling scarecrows (we now have two), a prize draw, a book exchange and some lovely food. We (I) we decided we would go round the scarecrows, find the 6 missing dwarves and then have some lunch.
The scarecrows are brilliant ranging from “Bill and Ben”, “Batman”, “Darth Vader”, “Peter Rabbit”, “Peppa Pig” plus many more! We had a lovely walk round, posing with loads and located 5 missing dwarves. A lot of worry about where the 6th was! I did a deal with Henry and Eliza that we would go back to the hall, have lunch and then drive round to see if we could find the missing dwarf. If we found him, I would buy cake and a scarecrow! We found him…..happy children!
This is a lovely trip out and an enjoyable walk around the village with beautiful views of the Yorkshire Wolds. Lunch in the village hall is reasonable with a lunch box costing £2 (for sandwich, crisps, biscuit and glass of squash plus a little notebook) and adult food similarly priced which then left us some money to play with, on the tombola etc.
We had a lovely time and definitely had fun deliberating which scarecrow was our favourite. In the end the decision was unanimous…Peter Rabbit!
