The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts provide outstanding performing arts tuition for children aged 4-18 years at their Academy in Scarborough. This popular national Academy came to our area in October 2014, launching with great success and many young performers coming through their doors. They run fabulous classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television. They also showcase regularly at Mumbler Fun Days across the region, which the children really enjoy joining in with.
PQA have gone from strength to strength and have had a fabulous 2017! I caught up with Principal James recently, who filled me in on all the EXCITING activities students can look forward to in 2018! If only we were young again…
Staff at The Pauline Quirke Academy are very well qualified, and are all industry professionals in their own right. It means that the tuition provided at PQA is bang-up-to-date and relevant to young performers. Being part of a large national Performing Arts Academy enables students to perform in large scale shows at some very prestigious theatres and venues, locally, regionally and nationally. Students receive fantastic training and gain experience that in turn transfers into valuable life skills – not just within the arts. e.g., confidence, self-esteem, and communication skills. For those students who want experience in professional theatre, film and television, PQA also have their own exclusive agency, Quirky Kidz Create Management, where PQA students get the opportunity to take their training to the next level.
Students at PQA Scarborough have had a busy year, their highlight being performing at The Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End in their very own musical ‘The Lazy Ace’. They also participated in performing arts exams and have achieved Distinctions in their Grade 4 Musical Theatre in Production Trinity College London exams. The students also took part in other performance opportunities including their production of ‘Into The Woods Jr’ and performance opportunities with professional theatre company Animated Objects.
Looking ahead to 2018 the students will be preparing for their very own Red Carpet Cinema Screening, where families have the opportunity to see the students’ very own films screened on the big screen at Vue Cinema in York. Everyone gets dressed up and walks down the Red Carpet while having their photo taken by a professional photographer, before being entertained by the amazing student movies!
The students are also entering nationwide competitions in 2018 including the 4 Week Film Challenge and the Chat Show Host Competition – the ultimate prize being an opportunity to interview Pauline Quirke herself in a brand new chat show!
