Gemstones and pearls – jewellery-making workshop

June 8, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

A one-day jewellery-making workshop at Scarborough Art Gallery next month will teach participants how to design and make bespoke bracelets and earrings using silver-plated wire and a selection of beautiful gemstones, glass beads and pearls.

Artist and jewellery-maker Jennifer Weston works with genuine gemstones, found materials and wire. She assembles and manipulates materials to heighten associative qualities. Her jewellery involves simple lines and highly skilled labour-intensive processes exploring the possibilities of light, colour and form, to create wearable aesthetic heirlooms.

All materials are provided and participants will learn safe uses of tools and materials. The workshop is suitable for beginners.

Jennifer says: “Participants will be able to choose from a range of genuine gemstone beads and pearls: I want them to come and choose something lovely that they see on the day, rather than have some preconceived idea of what they will make, as part of the course is discussing design.”

Ruth Yoxon, Learning Manager at Scarborough Museums Trust, says: “We’re delighted to have such a talented craftsperson delivering a workshop – it’s an excellent opportunity to create gifts for friends, or even something lovely for yourself!”

The course will take place on Saturday 8 June from 10am to 4pm, and costs £59 per person (concessions £54). To book a place, please call the Art Gallery on 01723 374753 between 9am to 5pm Tuesdays to Sundays.
