Perhaps you are considering a trip to York this half term. Having teamed up with Visit York, we decided to take a Magical Trip of our own!
We took the Park-and-Ride from Monks Cross into York. It was super easy with great parking and only cost £3.60 as children, go FREE, win win.
First activity was the York Mumbler mythical creatures Trail. We had printed it off from Emily‘s website (HERE) but it is also available to collect from the visit your office of Parliament Street, this is a lovely trail for little ones finding creatures around York here’s a couple that we saw. It is free and a great way to entertain little ones as you do your shopping and enjoy your day out in York.
The trial took us to The Shambles, where we visited the Potions Cauldron. We had a booking to make potions. We were ushered into the back room. Where we met our Alchemist, who was full of stories, chat and jokes. This took an hour and was great fun. Both Eliza (8) and Henry (11) really enjoyed it, and we left full of magic ready for our next adventure.
A short walk across York took us to the Hole in the Wand. This is a great indoor activity, again with a magical twist! The holes are imaginative and fun. We had lots of chat and giggles along the way. There are lockers to store your stuff and a place to park push chairs etc. There are steps and tight places so you couldn’t go round with a pushchair. Suitable for all ages (over 3s can play, under 3s can watch). It is situated centrally opposite Jorvik Viking Centre. We really enjoyed it and it was great to do something different over half term.
I really enjoyed our day out in York. The potion making lots of fun and we got to hear the stories of our energy filled Alchemist. The potions looked really cool and tasted amazing too. Our Alchemist is keen for a round table though! In the Hole in the Wand, they did trick or treat. Eliza got trick – haha! my friend got a free return and I got a yummy chocolate coin. Then to pick our wands before playing the magical course! The holes were great fun. Mummy seems to like crazy golf and got TWO holes in one! I came second 🥈. As a prize for completing the crazy golf, we got more potions. Win win! Henry (11)
I really enjoyed our day out to York. I will make sure Mummy plans another! The potion making was amazing! I liked hearing about the different alchemists. We ordered our potions and did a bit of magic, they tasted really nice. At the Hole in the Wand, we picked our “wands” and took a photo with a broomstick, then started the golf. It was really fun! Some holes were quite hard! But we found Grobblenook! Annoyingly Mummy won. Eliza (8)
It was great fun to do a magical and mythical creature themed day! The kids loved it! We are so lucky to live where we do with York a short drive and the countryside on our doorstep!
