The Easter holidays run from 23rd March to 7th April 2024 and we’ve put together this handy list of free or low cost activities in and around Scarborough, Whitby and Filey:
Active Coast – Lots of free activities from the over the holiday including Beach Multisports, Calming Play and Create, Coastal Explorers, Dance Sessions, and Sand and Stone Art Workshops. These are available in Bridlington, Hornsea, Withernsea and The Humber Bridge Country Park. For more information visit their website here.

Ayton Village Hall – Easter Craft Fair, Sunday 7th April 2024 10am – 4pm. Tea, coffee, cakes, bacon butties etc. Free entry.
Cayton Bay Free children’s activities on 2nd April 2024, 10am – 12pm. For ages 5 to 10 years old , lots of things to make and take home. Parents must attend with child , free refreshments for all. Jubilee Hall, Main Street, Cayton
Boggle Hole – Easter Egg Hunt at YHA Boggle Hole on 7th, 8th, & 9th April 2023. £5 to enter and there are 12 eggs to find. Prizes to be won. Awaiting 2024 dates soon!
Guisborough Forest & Walkway – Eggcellent Egg Hunt. 26th to 28th March and 2nd to 5th April 2024. Packs are available from the centre shop between 10am and 3pm and cost £1 per child. No booking is required. We can barely contain our eggcitement! Pinchinthorpe, Guisthorpe, TS14 8HD
Love Exploring – Download the app and follow one of the trails or play the games. You can do a Dinosaur Safari, Mega Mini Beasts, Space Walk or the Peasholm Park Fairies Tree Trail
Peasholm Park Spring Daze – Awaiting 2024 dates soon! Taking place in the beautiful setting of Peasholm Park! With a spring-themed woodland trail, storytelling, flower potting, nature crafts, face painting, and awesome walkabout act Treemendous!
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust – Free Coastal Crafts and Exploration at The Living Seas Centre in Flamborough from 26th March and into April 2024. Drop-in and create some coastal-themed arts and crafts, have fun exploring the strandline tray, use the microscopes, play the marine-litter game and read sea-themed books. Perfect for families, no booking needed!
Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum – Lots of free activities, find out more here
Local Libraries – most of the libraries in the area will be hosting some kind of Easter themed activity, contact your nearest library to find out what’s happening. Derwent Valley Bridge Library have a Easter Crafts morning on Monday 25th March and Filey Library has some free Easter Crafts on selected dates and an Easter Treasure Hunt running throughout the holidays, find out more here. National Park Centres – Constellation Rubbing Trail and Notice Nature Trail at Danby Lodge and Sutton Bank National Park Centre. Plus lots of other activities, find out more here.
Ravenscar Easter Trail – Awaiting 2024 dates soon!. Make your way along the trail (approx. 2km) and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. The price of the trail is £3 per child and includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg at the end. A free-from chocolate egg is available. Ravenscar Visitor Centre, YO13 0NE
Robin Hood’s Bay Easter Trail – Awaiting 2024 dates soon! Come along and explore the beautiful surroundings of Robin Hood’s Bay. The price of the trail is £3 per child and includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg at the end. A free-from chocolate egg is available. Trail starts at the Old Coastguard Station above the slipway at the bottom of Robin Hood’s Bay village, YO22 4SJ.
Filey Lions Easter Bunny Sea Dip – 30th March 2024, 10.30am. Witness a bunch of people dressed as Easter bunnies take a dip in the freezing cold sea at Cobble Landing, Filey. Or you can join in yourself, request an entry form by emailing treasurer.fileylions@gmail.com. £10 to enter. All funds raised go towards helping our community.
Side Oven Bakery (Foston) Easter Trail – 29th March 2024, 10am till 3pm (last admission 2pm) Easter Trail around our beautiful Organic Farm. We have hidden some very special woodland creatures around the farm. Tickets are £3 in advance or £4 on the day. Pre-book by emailing northfrodptfa@gmail.com
Dalby Forest – Offers over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore, enjoy and discover. Great play area for children, accessible walking and cycling trails for all. Cafes and play areas. The Gruffalo Trail – Discover giant Gruffalo sculptures, or have a go at a Gruffalo orienteering course. You can also download our fantastic free Gruffalo resources for fun in the forest and at home. Daily car park rate £10 (before 4pm)
Central Tramway, South Bay Scarborough – Victorian cliff railway on the Yorkshire coast linking St Nicolas Street and Foreshore Road.
Hop onto The Central Tramway and gain inspiration. FREE to enter design a postcard competition.
There are 3 age groups so both kids and parents could enter too. The winners would receive a goodie bag and the opportunity to have their design on show and maybe made into a Postcard for the coming season
Yorkshire Beaches – Take a walk on the Yorkshire Beaches, there are lots of lovely beaches nearby. Buy some bacon and a crabbing kit for hours of fun on Whitby Harbour. Take a bucket and look for fossils. Great places to search include Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, North Bay Scarborough and Cayton Bay. Find a list of local beaches here
