A question we often get asked is how we deal with pupils changing in the middle of the year. How can we help? Starting from scratch can be daunting at the best of times. Having to change schools during the year is just that little bit extra scary. What does a school like Scarborough College do to make it easier?
Firstly, it might help to visit or arrange a taster day beforehand. You get to see the school, the teachers and the pupils. In our case, you get to see it is not such a scary place at all.
We believe that we are well prepared to ensure a new pupil gets the best start. We assign a buddy and in our joining papers, there is a special section new pupils can complete, which allows us to get to know them better. Most important of all, we make sure the right people are available at the right time. New starters get to know their tutors and head of year quickly and vice versa.
Once you get to know the people, you will be amazed how many opportunities there are to get involved. From the sports field to the music school, you will find it easy to display your passions and your talents and you will feel like a Scardeburgian in no time.
