With 33 fixtures over the regular Summer holiday period across eight of Yorkshire’s nine racecourses, there will be a meeting near you. Look out for the family days which will have additional entertainment for the children to enjoy. There are various themed days from circuses to tribute bands, fancy dress to All Creatures Great and Small.
There are various different ticket options but in general families tend to gather in the Course Enclosure, where usually you can drive your car in, or just walk across the track. Take your own picnic or treat yourself to something from the on-course caterers. Food options vary but there is nearly always an ice-cream van or a sweet shop – usually both!
A day at the races is an experience. Standing close to the rails you can feel the ground shake and hear the horses hooves thud into the turf as they thunder past. The jockeys are so focused, desperate to get past the winning post first. See the horses’ nostrils flare as they share the determination of their jockeys, before being taken back to their stables to be looked after by their adoring groom.
It is a sport that can be shared and enjoyed by multiple generations, starting and continuing family traditions. Check out the FAMILY PAGE on the Go Racing In Yorkshire website for family fixtures and to buy tickets.
