Mumbler Assistant Andrea lives in Hull, she took her children age 8 and 13 plus Grandma to Woldies during the 2022 school summer holiday, here’s what she thought…..
Today we went to Woldies for the day, it was glorious sunshine and we had already spotted plenty of butterflies and bugs on the lavender before we even got to the reception area. If your children like hunting for bugs, then visiting this place is a must.
On arrival we were given some little booklets with lots of different trails and activities with things for the kids to find around the farm.
We headed straight for the timber trail first, which is a playground type area which is great for all ages. There’s also lots of picnic benches around that area too with several shaded areas, perfect for lunch & snack breaks during this hot weather.
Just near the Timber Trail is the entrance to the Willow Maze, this is a favourite with my kids, even though we never got all the way around it without getting lost or exiting through the Escape Route.
There are loads of giant games hidden within the maze, and you can spend ages in there playing chess, draughts, noughts & crosses, jenga, plus lots more. I actually taught my youngest to play chess here at Woldies!
Beyond the maze is a den building zone which is in the shade so great for todays heat, then my son wanted to play Foot Golf. We had a game of that before heading off to see the beehive. There’s a lovely garden area here, again with lots of seating, and you can also play a pollinator game to learn how bees pollinate the flowers. If you head to the hive inside a small hut, you can see some honeybees at work which is really interesting and educational too (and completely safe).
We spent most of the day at Woldies and we didn’t even get to see it all, so it comes highly recommended from us as a lovely, full family day out.
It was great for my children’s ages, even the teenagers, but would also be great for tots and we saw a lot of little ones enjoying the play areas. Grandma really enjoyed it too, its a place she’d feel comfortable taking the grandkids on her own in future as its so safe, enclosed and quiet. There are lots of things to see and different activities to keep the kids engaged; even during the hot weather there are plenty of opportunities to find shade and cool down. There’s a café for refreshments and a gift shop too. So close to the A64, it is really easy to get to, making it the perfect school holiday day out.
