This year there are lots of Christmas activities and events taking place locally. To take the hassle, stress and cost out of travelling to some of these, why not take the bus? All fairs are capped at £2 on any route with East Yorkshire buses, making it a really cheap and easy way to get to the festive family events across our region. Where will you go?
You can take the bus all the way to Hull on the £2 fares! It terminates at the bus station which is right next door to St Stephens Shopping Centre. If you are heading into the city on the bus here are some ideas for things to do –
Visit Hull Minster and see the Lord Mayors Christmas Tree Festival, 5th to 23rd December. Or head into Hull Library on Albion Street for some festive activities and storytime sessions.
See a show! We are spoilt for choice this year. In Hull you can see:
Visit Santa! The Princess Quay grotto is open daily until Christmas Eve.
The BIG event is the Beverley Festival of Christmas on 10th December, with lots of stalls in the town centre and around both markets. Parking is always a nightmare for this so we will be going on the bus (look out for the special park and ride service to this event!). Also, the Made in East Yorkshire Market will take place in Beverley on 6th, 7th, 8th December, with festive entertainment and activities. The weekly Saturday Market on 9th December will also have a Christmas theme. With road closures in place and limited parking in the town centre, visitors are encouraged to travel by bus.
Beverley Minster’s Christmas Tree Festival runs 1st to 10th December, with 125 tree’s decorated by local business and organisations.
See a show in Beverley!
You can also carry on to Pocklington on the bus. Pocklington Arts Centre have a festive family show, The Elves and the Shoemaker Save Christmas, 7th to 16th December. It’s also the big Pocklington Christmas Market on 16th December. Or you can take the bus to Driffield for their Dickensian themed Christmas Market on 1st December.
You can take the X46 or X47 all the way to York city centre, where there are lots of Christmas markets, attractions and events. If you want to make a short break of it, we also have a brand new guide ‘Short Breaks in York’ to read here. A lot of the city centre hotels and B&Bs don’t have parking and we have paid a fortune in car parking in the past to stay overnight, so getting the bus is a much cheaper and simpler option than paying for petrol, parking and the stress of actually finding a car park and space!
Take the bus to Bridlington. You can catch a show at Brid Spa – Beauty and the Beast runs 13th December to 2nd January. We also love the splash pool at East Riding Leisure Bridlington (just a short walk from the Spa). The fabulous She Productions have a Christmas show for ages 4+, The Three Wise Women. It’s touring around the East Riding libraries, calling at Bridlington on 16th December.
