Lots of activities happening during 2023 May Half Term from 27th May to 4th June 2023:

Daily Crafting sessions on Skelf Island:

Mermaid Peg Doll Making, 11am – 12pm. Make your own mermaid peg doll!
Crocodile Puppet Making, 1pm – 2pm. Make your own crocodile puppet!

These activities are recommended for children aged 3+ years and must be booked in advance. Each ticket is a crafting session for one adult and up to two children as a joint activity. Ticket-purchasers must also purchase Grounds or House and Grounds tickets for the day of their visit. All children always remain the responsibility of the accompanying adult. Crafting sessions will take place at Skelf Island.

Free activities included with Admission tickets:

Pirate Crafting Adventure drop in sessions daily between 11am – 3pm. Make your own Pirate Hat and add your artwork to our Treasure Map! You are a pirate captain of the ship The Golden Bounty. After a fierce battle at sea, you lost your hat. Can you design and make yourself a new one for your next adventure?

Camp Wilderness – 29th May 2023. A host of free activities for all the family to enjoy. Please note that this activity is not suitable for those under the age of 6 years old. Families can book onto a slot which will allow up to 4 people to embrace activities that include tomahawk throwing and archery.

For centuries the Skelves have inhabited a secret world, over the water from Castle Howard, causing mischief and mayhem high up in the trees, interacting with birds and protecting wildlife. They’re curious about humans too and want to explore and play with them. Join them in the treetops of Yorkshire’s most magical adventure playground, Skelf Island.

Ingenious treetop nest structures connected by rope bridges, slides, nets, and climbing equipment will allow the Skelves to take young visitors on an adventure like no other.

With over 8,000 acres of forest to explore, Dalby Forest is the perfect place to spend some quality family time in the great outdoors. The team at Dalby have put together some fun-filled activities to keep the whole family entertained.

So, pack up your picnic and enjoy a low-cost day in nature!

  1. Easter Scavenger Hunt – Collect your sheet from the Visitor Centre information point, then head into the play area to see how many eggs the Easter Bunny has hidden around the forest. Return your sheet for an Easter treat!
  2. Easter Egg Ornament Craft – Pop into our Visitor Centre, visit the crafting table and follow our handy guide to make your very own Easter Egg Ornament.
  3. Women in Forestry Exhibition – Learn about the history of Women in Forestry and how their efforts shaped the future of our forests. Entry to the exhibition is free. Find the art space in the Courtyard, Low Dalby. Open daily from 8am – 4pm
  4. Gruffalo Party Trail – Join in the celebrations! The Gruffalo is celebrating his 25th birthday this year. Can you us help find his missing party items? Pick up your pack for just £4 from our Visitor Centre information point, packed with fun things to do on your party adventure. Inside you’ll find:
    • kraft bag to colour in
    • party headband to wear
    • party trail activity leaflet
    • stickers
    • pencil and crayon
    • keepsake sew-on Gruffalo Party patch
  5. Gruffalo orienteering trail – try our fun, navigational challenge at Dalby Forest using a simple map to find twelve Gruffalo markers hidden in the deep, dark wood. Bonus if you spot the Gruffalo hiding in the trees!
  6. Grandfather Oak playground – Swing, climb, hide and spark their imaginations at the Grandfather Oak playground! Test your climbing skills on this fun playground with so much for the mind to explore. Hide away in our wooden teepees, clamber on the climbing frame or make your way round the playground and find your joy in the wildplay area.
  7. Go Ape Treetop Adventure – Built for the whole family, this is the ultimate tree top experience of wobbly bridges, intricate crossings and an awesome zip wire finale in Dalby Forest. The perfect high ropes course for kids as well as mum, dad and the grandparents!
  8. Life on two wheels – Get started or tune up those cycling skills with training courses for little legs, hosted by our Bike Hire partner, Dalby Forest Cycle Hub!

With themed trails, adventure play areas, natural play, safe off-road cycling and lots of space to create your own woodland palace, your local woods and forests are the perfect place for a family day out, fit for a king!

Get ready for the mischief and mayhem this May Half Term daily from 27th May – 4th June 2023.

𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁 – Guess who’s back, back again – Fatt Matt’s back, tell all of your friends! It’s been a few years, but our favourite Aussie has acrobatted his way from down under to be with us! Roll up for two spectacular shows with gravity-defying tricks (12:00pm and 2:30pm) every day this Half Term in our Big Top Tent.

𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 – We’ve got some exciting new Animal Encounters lined up for you throughout May Half Term with 5 sessions each day. Our gorgeous guinea pigs and bouncing bunnies are ready to meet you, so give them lots of soft strokes and a gentle pats and don’t forget to take some adorable photos.

𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗚𝗼 𝗧𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 – As the warmer weather returns, our Beach is the perfect spot to cool off and spend a few hours exploring interactive features and our huge expanse of sand! Your little piggies will love to splish and splash through our jets and dams, whizz down our Cliffside Slide and build the biggest sandcastles.

𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 – The mayhem continues inside! Our Indoor Playbarn provides the best shelter from the May sunshine or showers, whilst also letting your little piggies run off some energy. Get an adrenaline rush whizzing down our drop and wave slides, race your pals on our pedal tractors and climb aboard our wooden JCB diggers.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 – Enjoy plenty of fresh air and adventures for the whole family in the great outdoors! Take a swing at our Crazy Golf Course, ride on our Pink Barrel Train with your pals, complete the Olym-Pig Assault Course and jump for joy on our Bouncing Pillows.

𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 & 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 – A day out to us isn’t complete without a delicious bite to eat. Whether you fancy a pizza from our Piggy Pizza Parlour, a yummy Piggy Poo ice cream from our Ice Cream Parlour or a barista style coffee and a light bite from our Trough Café. We’ve got something on offer to suit every appetite and you’re never too far from a delicious refreshment!

The House is open for Free-Flow self-led tours on Sunday 4th June (11.30am–3pm) – spend as long or as little time as you like looking inside the house which is steeped in history, with guides and stewards on hand to answer any questions!

Picnics are welcome, and we also have a state of the art Coach House Café, Farm Shop plus The Pantry for that all-important ice cream!

The Deep H2O Heroes

27th May – 4th June 2023, 10am – 5pm. Visit The Deep this May half-term for some action-packed fun, in partnership the RNLI. Climb onboard as we explore safety at the coastline and in the water.  Look out for beach flags and safety signs around the attraction, and fill out our trail sheet along the way for a chance to win a prize. Plus lots of other coastal themed activities including presentations, and rescue tips from the RNLI.

The H20 Heroes event is included in standard ticket entry, no additional booking is required. Pre-booking is essential for all visits.
